Club History
Formed just after the second world war by Ted Watkins, Frindsbury Badminton Club originally used All Saints Church Hall at Frindsbury near Rochester. When the club joined the Rainham & District Badminton League in the 1960s the team enjoyed home advantage as the hall had low hanging beams with fluorescent strip lighting attached, which annoyed the opposition no end!

The club met on a Monday, but Ted also ran a junior and a beginners club on a Friday at the hall. If you were judged (by Ted) to have reached the required standard you were allowed to play on a Monday. At the end of a session Ted would collect the used shuttles and if any had broken, he would glue them back together ready for the next week! For his many contributions to the local sporting community he was granted "honorary citizen of the City of Rochester" status.

At the beginning of the 1993 season the local yobs, after several attempts, succeeded in setting fire to the hall, causing major damage and making the scouts, guides, playgroup and many clubs homeless. Ted was by this time in his eighties, so the club members got together to try and save the club from folding. In a stroke of luck, the brand new Stirling Sports Centre had just opened in Rochester and were very helpful to the club, finding us a badminton court to use every week. The club later added "Stirling" to its name to reflect the new venue and now plays on two courts.

Over the years we have mainly played in the mixed divisions of the local league, enjoying mostly successful times. In the season 2001-2002 we won every match and were league champions for three consecutive seasons, in 2001-2002, 2002-2003 and 2003-2004.
